This book describes,with the help of topical statistics, how the world has developed in recent decades: what kind of development has been achieved and what are the challenges facing development? The book discusses the UN's global Sustainable Development Goals, which entered into force in 2016, and examines progress towards these Goals. 

This is the eighth edition of the book, which has been updated and modified. The book was produced by the United Nations Development Programme UNDP, supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
